These days, modern first-person shooter game developers are roping in former members of the army to assist with making their games more realistic. To a certain extent, they did manage to achieve that. In terms of visuals, from how the weaponry used to the explosions they produce, the developers have got it spot on.

However, some things simply cannot be reproduced in games. There exists a YouTube channel which uploads videos taken exclusively by army veterans via mounted cameras in their helmets of real-life missions, and while they’re reminiscent of games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare or Battlefield 3, it’s not quite the same. Most times, you can’t even see the enemy, let alone aim down your sights to shoot them.

Of course, making the games that way – where the pace is inconsistent and engagements are few and far in between – would result in a rather boring game. But viewing the footage above, where one soldier gets shot four times by running from cover to provide safe passage to his team, one cannot help but experience the intense feeling of disorientation and fear rising as the rifle shots come raining in his direction – and he can’t even locate where the shots are coming from.

Have a look at the other videos posted on the channel – it makes for some compelling viewing.
