Ever watched “The Lord of the Rings” and wished there was a MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) with your favourite LOTR character in it?  Since the satisfyingly addictive LOTR game that was LOTR: The Return of the King on the PS2, there hasn’t been an LOTR game that quite matched the awesome scale the movies did.

But first, what is a MOBA? Also known as ARTS (action real time strategy), it is a new game genre spawned by the uber-successful Defense of the Ancients (DotA) mod. Most MOBAs are PC-centric, simply because of the dynamics of the gameplay.

However, “Guardians of Middle-earth” is changing all that, with it being a console-only MOBA. According to the developers, Monolith, playing “Guardians of Middle-earth” with a controller is “totally natural”.

The game is expected to be released “this fall”, and while the teaser trailer is quite a looker, the gameplay trailer looks a tad disappointing. Perhaps I’m not much of a MOBA player, or perhaps there is a lot more promise for this game instead of being limited to a MOBA. See the gameplay video for yourself after the break.
