While many companies are shying away from competitive gaming, Wargaming.net – the people behind the popular MMO, World of Tanks – is doing otherwise. The MMO company has recently announced a global competitive gaming tournament called Wargaming.net League which offers a prize pool of RM 7.7 million (USD 2.5 million) for 2013 alone.

Scheduled to take place sometime in this quarter, the Wargaming.net League will be utilizing the standard competitive gaming format. This means that there will be a regional qualifier and playoffs leading towards up to a global Grand Finals. Starting with World of Tanks, Wargaming has also planned to include its other MMO titles into the mix such as World of Warplanes once they are out in the market.

This is not the company’s first foray into the global eSports scenes as World of Tanks has been featured at the last year’s World Cyber Games Grand Finals in China. To all World of Tanks players out there, time to form a team and practice hard!
