China has yesterday launched the world’s longest bullet train line, covering a massive 1425 miles (about 2295km) from Beijing to Guangzhou. Previously, this trip would have taken 22 hours, but at an average speed of 186mph (about 300kmh) this new line cuts the travel times by almost 70 percent, to a mere eight hours. The new bullet train line will have stops at Shijiazhuang, Zhengzhou, Wuhan and Changsha before stopping at Guangzhou. The new train line is the latest among the 5779 miles of high speed rail lines in the country of more than 1.3 billion residents. By 2020, the government hopes to reach 30000 miles of high speed rail line to cover the majority of the country. The opening of the new line, as Wired reports, is just in time for the mass exodus that happens during the Lunar New Year, which is set to fall in February next year.
