Good Old Games, or GOG, has always been the place to find DRM free games for those who want to avoidbeing locked into Steam or any other DRM. It is now also a place to get DRM free movies, or at least it will if talks with Hollywood executives go well. For now, the new Movie tab on GOG.com will contain a documentaries about gaming and internet culture; the kind of thing that resonates with its main customers. Current pricing has the movies at US$5.99 (RM18.90), and GOG is trying to maintain that as the pricing for all future releases. Whether this will happen with major releases is still unknown, but there is no harm in trying. A couple of documentaries are currently being given away for free as part of the launch of this new initiative, TPB AFK: The Pirate Bay Away From Keyboard and The Art of Playing. TPB AFK follows the Pirate Bay trial in Sweden and brings to light the politics and drama behind the world’s largest torrent tracker. All of these documentaries are available in full 1080p resolution, although GOG also provides lower resolutions for those who want to stream the video from the site instead of downloading it. If this effort is successful, it may only be a matter of time before other similar platforms attempt the same thing. In fact, it is a little surprising that Valve hasn’t tried this one yet; even after releasing their own documentary about Dota 2. Link : GOG.com Starts Selling DRM-Free Movies | |
