Looks like MeeGo (for those who care, at least) is well and truly alive, after all. Fresh from announcing a 200 million euro alliance to build and expand its ecosystem, Jolla Mobile’s CEO Jussi Hurmola announced what many have been waiting eagerly for since Nokia seemingly ended the MeeGo dream: a fresh new MeeGo-based OS.

Codenamed “Sailfish”, the OS was briefly mentioned in the earlier alliance announcement, but over the weekend the company announced the date of its unveiling: November 21-22 at the Slush startup conference in Helsinki. There, Jolla will deliver the Jolla developer story and a working SDK with developers. In addition, Jolla will also host an in-depth demonstration of the UI, complete with a Q&A session with members of the media.

As for an official unveiling of the first Jolla smartphone, well, that may have to wait. Jolla has mentioned in its press release that details of its new device and availability will be announced “before Christmas”.
