During the release of iOS 6, some people found that the clock design found in the Clock application looks mightily similar to the iconic one used by the Swiss national railway (SBB). An SBB spokesperson at the time mentioned that Apple had not approached SBB for permission to use their clock’s design, and therefore was downright plagiarizing it. Luckily for Apple, SBB did not press charges, and late on Friday announced that they have reached an amicable licensing agreement.

Over the weekend, more interesting news came out involving Apple and the European nation. A Swiss photographer, Sabine Liewald, has accused Apple of using her image during the promotion of the Retina Macbook Pro laptop. According to AppleInsider, Apple had originally contacted Liewald to use to photo for “layout purposes”. However, the image appeared during the keynote speech during the launch of the laptop in June, prompting Liewald to file a lawsuit for “commercially exploiting” her image. Her file for damages was particularly interesting: as her image is arguably partially responsible to the success of the laptop range, Liewald is asking for a fraction of the profits from each and every Retina Macbook Pro ever sold, on top of damages for infringing the use of the image.
