Telecommunication companies will revert prices of their prepaid reloads to its pre-GST price starting 1 May 2015. While there has been a lot of confusion between the recent GST implementation and its effect on prepaid reloads, all that will now be a thing of the past with this latest piece of news. This price revert for prepaid reloads appears to be a result of the recent investigation initiated by The Royal Malaysia Customs and the Domestic Trade, Consumerism and Cooperatives Ministry. Customs director-general Datuk Seri Khazali Ahmad has stated that the telco companies in Malaysia have been informed to revert prices of their prepaid reloads to the price before GST was implementated on 1 April 2015. Recently, we did report that prepaid reloads are confirmed to be subject to GST and telco companies will offer free minutes and calls for reloads above RM5 as a transitional measure. However, it seems that these measures will no longer be necessary as prices will return to normal starting this Friday (1 May 2015). Whether local telcos will retain the extra minutes and text messages once the prices return to normal is unknown. So starting labour day, instead of paying RM10.60 for a RM10 top-up, customers will only need to pay RM10. [Source: The Star Online]
