Still using Messenger and have a separate Skype account? Skype recently just announced that both instant messaging services are coming together, allowing you to reach your Messenger friends using Skype. Available immediately, all you need to do is update your Skype and you can start messaging and video calling your Messenger contacts.

There have been talks about Microsoft’s plans to retire its Messenger service. A couple of weeks ago, Skype released an update that allows you to sign into Skype using your Microsoft ID, but who needs two accounts when you can have one? The latest update allows you to sign in and merge your contacts from both accounts. Microsoft also announced that it’ll be retiring Messenger in all countries worldwide in the first quarter of 2013 except mainland China, where Messenger will continue to live on.

Check out Skype’s blog for more information on how to sign into Skype using your Microsoft account and merge your contacts, if you’re still using it that is. How many of you are still using Messenger anyway?
