DJI announced a new add-on camera for its Zenmuse camera system as it teamed up with FLIR Systems to produce the Zenmuse XT2 camera. The camera module records both in 4K resolution and infrared; allowing for both images to be layered onto each other. As a follow up to last year’s Zenmuse XT, the new XT2 features better imaging capabilities when used in conjunction with the DJI Matrice 600 Pro and Matrice 200 Series enterprise drones. The camera features a 12MP 1/1.7″ CMOS sensor that records in 4K and supports up to 8x digital zoom. For thermal imaging, FLIR System pitched in and help to incorporate Multi-Spectral Dynamic Imaging (MSX) technology into the camera. The Zenmuse XT2 supports both 336 x 256 (up to 4x digital zoom) and 640 x 512 (up to 8x digital zoom) thermal resolutions which work in conjunction with the optical data for a clear image in any situation. Plus the camera is available in different lens configurations to suit any needs. Ideally, this combination of cameras will allow operators to identify areas of concern in industrial situations. Which is where the Zenmuse XT2 is expected to be used the most. After all, most consumers don’t actually have much use for FLIR technology on their drones. Other additional features include DJI’s Spotlight Pro which uses both HeatTrack and QuickTrack to automatically track objects while the operator focuses on the flight. The camera is also IP44 rated for dust and water ingress protection. DJI is not sharing any price for the system, but it is opening up quote requests from potential customers who are looking to invest in the system.
