Apart from launching Honor 6 Plus and the octa-core variant of Honor 4X (more on that later), there is one more new Honor product that Huawei has launched earlier today. It is not a smartphone though but instead, it is a streaming media box called the Honor Box.
Powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, the new Honor Box is also equipped with 1GB of RAM and 4GB internal storage. Comes standard with a Bluetooth-based remote control, the set-top box also features enough I/O port to satisfy average users out there including Ethernet, USB 2.0, HDMI and combo AV port for both composite video as well SPDIF output. Not enough with that, Huawei has also implemented 300Mbps 802.11n Wi-Fi with MIMO 2×2 antenna setup inside it. That being said, the highlight of Honor Box is its ability to play contents at 4K resolution. This particular feature is then further supplemented with the support for H.265 / HEVC contents together with HiVPX4 video decoding chip and Imprex image enhancement engine within the device. Since it is a streaming media box, it is quite apt that Huawei has collaborated together with Galaxy Internet TV in order to provide contents for the Honor Box. The collaboration is specifically for Chinese domestic market though and the company didn’t announce any similar plan for markets outside of the country. Similarly, Huawei also didn’t actually mention any release date for oversea markets at the moment. Nevertheless, for those who are still interested, the new Honor Box will be released in China on 23 December with a price tag of CNY 298 (RM 169) which is quite affordable for a 4K-capable media box.
