One of the year’s most anticipated motorsports events will return to Malaysia once again, as the Japan Super GT will be making its way to Sepang International Circuit for the 13th consecutive year come June. This time, organizers JPM Motorsport are promising one of the largest ever edition for this year’s third round of the 2013 AUTOBACS SUPER GT Series. Article continues after the break. Over the years the SUPER GT Series has been recognized as one of the most exciting GT racing series, gathering the world’s fastest GT cars and world-class racing drivers alike. The Series consist of eight rounds, all held in various racetracks in Japan, save one – the international leg in Sepang International Circuit (SIC), Malaysia. Each round is divided into the GT500 and GT300 classes, featuring the latest and greatest sports cars from Japanese and continental manufacturers such as Lexus, Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Porsche, Lamborghini, BMW, Audi, Aston Martin and Mercedes-Benz. Malaysians will have more reason to cheer this time around, as our very own Fairuz Fauzy is one of the drivers for team APR Audi R8 LMS Ultra in this season’s GT300 class. Also, the Malaysian-backed Petronas Toms SC430 Team is also one to look out for after coming out as victors in Round 2 at the Fuji Speedway circuit. In addition, this year will also see the first hybrid cars competing in the GT300 class in the Malaysian leg of the SUPER GT Series. In the previous round, the Toyota PRIUS GT secured the first ever victory for a hybrid car in the series. The GT300 class competition also features a fleet of MUGEN CR-Z GT cars. Also, this year’s event will feature the first Asia Cup race, organized by Meritus. Aimed at encouraging enthusiasts to compete in grass root racing activities, the Asia Cup consists of the Ultra Racing Gymkhana and Drifting that will be held outside the race track. Like previous SUPER GT Series rounds held here, the weekend is more than just catered for the motorsports enthusiast. This year, organizers JPM Motorsport will be holding several other events to make this a weekend to remember for everyone. Alongside the SUPER GT race, there will also be the Affin Bank Motorshow, a Japan Town by Sachi, the Biggest Superbike Gathering, before closing with Dash Berlin’s “Music is Life” World Tour 2013. Also, JPM Motorsport will also attempt to best its record of the Biggest Supercar and Performance Car in the Malaysia Book of Records it set in 2012, while also attempting the Biggest and Noisiest Super Bike Gathering on track at the SIC. Finally, fans can also meet and greet the drivers and teams during the Pit Walkabout – not to mention the jaw-dropping Race Queens. Incidentally, there will also be a 2013 Malaysian SUPER GT Queen Search Pageant, the third consecutive year that it is held. The winner of the pageant stands a chance of joining the Japanese GT Queens line-up in Japan. The Malaysian round of the AUTOBACS SUPER GT 2013 will be held on the 15th and 16th of June at the Sepang International Circuit. Tickets for this event is priced at RM100, and can be purchased online at www.supergt.com.my. Fans can also stay abreast of the season’s updates via www.facebook.com.my/supergt.my.
