Google Nexus Player

At Google I/O few months ago, Google shared its vision of the entertainment in the living room through Android TV. Fast forward to today, the first device to run Android TV is now here in the form of the new Google Nexus Player which is manufactured by ASUS.

It is also the third new Nexus device that were launched today by Google, together with Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 which are the first batch of devices to feature the new Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Google Nexus Player

Nexus Player is essentially a media box that is designed for movies, music and video streaming as well as gaming which explains why ASUS has designed a gamepad for the box. Since it comes with support for Google Cast, users are able to enjoy contents wirelessly from Chromebook as well as Android, iOS, Mac or Windows devices on their TV via the Nexus Player.

Weighing at 235 grams, the Nexus Player is powered by a 1.8GHz Intel Atom quad-core processor that is based on Intel’s Silvermont architecture and also features a PowerVR Series 6 GPU. The device also comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB internal storage together dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth LE 4.0 connectivity. Additionally, there are also a HDMI out and Micro-USB 2.0 port on the Nexus Player.

Available in US this November with a price tag of USD 99 (RM 325), each Nexus Player comes standard with a Bluetooth-based voice-activated remote control and USD 20 (RM ) store credit for Google Play. At the same time, the gamepad for Nexus Player will be available separately for USD 39.99 (RM 132). For now, there is still no release date for markets outside of US.
