A range of new Toshiba televisions will be making their way into the Malaysian markets this October, beginning with the budget minded L2400, P1400, and S2400 series. This will be followed up with the Android powered L5400 and L9450 series later in the month. The L2400, P1400, and S2400 feature the Toshiba USB Movie technology that supports 28 video formats, and is capable of playing directly flash drives and external HDDs. The three series range from 23-inches to 55-inches in size with prices beginning at RM599. Toshiba’s main attraction for the announcement is the Toshiba Pro Theatre L9450 series, which is the company’s second generation 4K display with Android. It features the 4K Resolution+ upscaling technology to provide near Ultra HD quality on normal 2K content. With the addition of Android 4.4.2 KitKat, it also manages to do all the things that a regular smart TV is capable of. This may make the L9450 series one of the few TVs to take advantage of Youtube’s 4K content. The L9450 series comes in 84-, 65-, and 50-inches. Finally, the L5400 series is also another trio of Android KitKat powered TVs and has a new dual-core CEVO Engine Premium GPU. Like the L9450 series, it also has the usual smart TV capabilities; albeit at a lower resolution than the premium model. It comes in a 55-, 47-, and 40-inch versions. Both the L9450 and L5400 series are capable of supporting external game pads for playing Android games; both an Xbox 360 and Logitech wireless controllers were demonstrated as working for racing games. According to Toshiba, no additional drivers are needed to make the controllers work. The L9450 and L5400 will be made available through Toshiba dealers later this month.
