Apple’s event in San Francisco late last night (Malaysian time) was not only to feature the new iPhone 5. Turns out, Apple had not forgotten its equally successful iPod line of music players. After two years, Apple has refreshed the iPod Touch as well as the Nano, both of which look very impressive. Head on after the break for the latest and best iPod Touch to date. First up, the refreshed iPod touch. It’s gotten a massive bump up in specs, with the screen sharing that of the new iPhone 5 (4-inch IPS Retina display). Apple has also added a 5MP iSight camera that has most of the same features found in the iPhone 5 (f2.4 aperture, five-element lens, hybrid IR filter, 1080p recording, backside illumination, Panorama app). In addition, the new iPod Touch will be using the latest iOS 6 OS, with Siri in tow. Also, AirPlay support has also been included. Sports buffs will also be happy to know that the iPod Touch will have Nike+ support built-in. One new addition to the iPod Touch is the addition of the iPod Touch Loop. Basically, it is an attached bracelet that secures the iPod to users’ wrists in case the super thin body slips off the hand. Yes, the iPod Touch now only weighs 88 grams and is only 6.1mm thick. Also present is the use of the new Lightning connector, which is smaller and thinner than the original 30-pin connector, and is also reversible. The new Lightning connector is not compatible with the old connector, but Apple has already announced an adaptor that ensures all older accessories can be used with the new iPod Touch. Apple will also ship the new iPod Touch with the new EarPods. (Stay tuned for our coverage on the new accessories available for the latest iPhone 5 and iPods). Unfortunately, the new iPod touch will only feature a two-generations-old processor, the A5. While this still produces a large bump in performance, it is disappointing to note that it uses an older architecture. A check at the Apple online store shows that the iPod Touch will be available for pre-order online from tomorrow (14 September), starting from RM1049 for the 16GB model. The 4th gen iPod touch has also dropped in price, with the 16GB model now priced at RM699, and the 8GB version not even on sale. EDIT: And, as you can see from the photos, the new iPod touch will come in five colours. Link : Meet the New Family of iPods: iPod Touch | |
