Well, that was quick. Less than three weeks since it was announced, there are whispers that Apple are already planning the successor to the iPad Mini. Some sources close to Apple’s supply chain in China are saying that Apple are already in the midst of developing a Retina display iPad Mini, with the same resolution as the new iPad 4. After its launch at the end of October, many were annoyed at the iPad Mini’s lack of oomph in terms of hardware, with its two-generations-old processor and non-Retina display. Some even called it a smaller iPad 2. Perhaps Apple recognized it as well, when rumours begin circulating so quickly after its launch. Another interesting aspect of the rumour was that Apple would be using Sharp’s IZGO display technology, which would make the iPad Mini 2 even thinner and more power efficient. But, before those who went down to Singapore to get an iPad Mini start weeping, this successor would only be launched in the fall of next year. That’s towards the end of September for us tropical folks. Thankfully, that won’t be as bad as the six months shelf life and subsequent disowning of the iPad 3 by Apple.
